NACADA Seizes Over 5,000 Litres of Illicit Alcohol in Narok Crackdown |
In a significant operation against illegal alcohol production, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) confiscated more than 5,000 litres of illicit brews in Narok County. The two-day multi-agency crackdown, conducted on May 22 and 23, 2025, targeted notorious hotspots in Topoti/Emorogi and Naikara markets within Narok North and Narok West sub-counties.
Led by NACADA's Head of Enforcement, Senior Superintendent of Police Nicholas Kosgey, the operation involved officers from the National Government Administration Officer (NGAO) and the National Police Service (NPS). In Topoti/Emorogi, enforcement teams destroyed over 5,000 litres of Kangara, a potent illegal brew, and recovered 5 kilograms of bhang. However, no arrests were made as suspects fled upon detecting the approaching officers.
At Naikara Market, the team conducted compliance checks on alcohol-selling outlets, destroying 60 litres of Busaa, another form of illicit brew. Intelligence gathered indicated the area is a hub for counterfeit products and uncustomed goods, likely smuggled across the border from Tanzania. These findings have prompted calls for a broader, more coordinated crackdown involving additional agencies.
Despite the absence of arrests, the operation has sent a strong warning to those involved in the illegal alcohol and drug trade. Local residents have expressed support for the crackdown, committing to assist authorities in eradicating illicit substances from their communities.
SSP Kosgey emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, "The public has been supportive and is willing to assist in future operations. This is just the beginning—more crackdowns will follow."
Authorities have pledged to intensify efforts in the region, warning that individuals involved in the illicit trade will face the full force of the law as the fight against drug and alcohol abuse continues.
